The voice keeping you up past midnight

Elliot Shaw has spent a decade asking the questions other hosts skip — then staying quiet long enough to hear the real answer.

Portrait of Nightcap Radio Hour host Elliot Shaw

Elliot Shaw

Host & Executive Producer

Elliot started Nightcap Radio Hour with a borrowed microphone, a kitchen table, and a simple bet: that the best conversations happen after 10pm, when guests stop performing and start talking. Six seasons later, the kitchen table is gone — the late hours stayed.

Before the show, Elliot produced overnight radio and toured with live storytelling nights, learning that silence is a question too. That patience shapes every episode: long answers, honest detours, and the occasional 1am confession no daytime show would ever get.

Off mic, Elliot books every guest personally, edits most episodes, and still answers listener mail on Sunday mornings with strong coffee.

How Elliot runs the table

01 — No scripts

Three bullet points per guest, never a question list. If the conversation turns at minute twelve, the whole episode turns with it.

02 — Long pauses

The best answers arrive after the comfortable ones. Elliot waits them out — listeners consistently call these moments their favourite.

03 — One take

Recorded live to tape with no re-dos. Stumbles, laughter, and 1am honesty all stay in — that's the entire point of the nightcap.

Recorded where the city sleeps

Every episode is captured in a basement studio under the city — treated walls, warm lamps, two chairs, and a strict no-phones rule once the red light is on.
